Character Series: Tales of Symphonia
Age: 12 at the beginning of the game
Background: (Spoilers!) When he was an infant, Genis and Raine were banished from Heimdall, land of the elves. They were half-elves, a condemned race in the ToS world, and their mother banished as well, their mother wandered around the world of Tethe'alla. Apparently, the government found about about the remarkable intelligence of the duo, and wanted to make them work for their labs. Desperate, their mother put them through the Otherworldly Gate, which was said to be linked to the mythical land of Sylvarant.
Raine seems to have brought them to Iselia. There, she told them that they were full-blood elves and raised Genis.
The events of the game are rather long and difficult to summarize. Well, Genis goes to Raine's school and is good friends with Lloyd, whose bravery he admires, and Colette, the new Chosen. Turns out that Chosen Regeneration journey is set to start, and after some mishaps, he goes along with Colette's group. They release some seals, blow up some human ranches, find morally objectionable secrets, and finally get to the tower. Then there's the next thirty hours of gameplay, and this summary is going to get really long. The gist of it is that they work towards restoring the worlds, having been torn apart by the hero Mithos.
An important event to note is that they pick up a half-elf boy by the name of Mithos. At the age of fourteen, he's the only half-elf near Genis's age, and they become fast friends. Until Mithos betrays them, of course. There are various hints that Mithos wishes desperately that Genis would side with him after he breaks off and reveals his identity. In a side-quest scene, Genis and Mithos go up a mountain to retrieve some herbs, in what they think is isolation. "If Lloyd and I got in a fight," he asked, "Whose side would you choose?" Genis answers that he'd side with Mithos, since Lloyd is prone to dumb fights. Mithos angstily replies that he'd hold Genis to that, and he doesn't want to lose another friend. Interestingly to note, after the event, Genis thanks Lloyd for protecting them. There's a lot of complexity in Genis's friendships. Ultimately, Genis and Lloyd share a very close friendship, strengthened through years.
The Tos "afterward" depends on the player's decisions, but in most cases, Genis and Raine go around together to help reception of half-elves. I think they might've also set off to gather exspheres.
Personality: Generally happy, likes to tease. A great chef. Very caring. Intelligent, and proud of it.
Item Lost: Memories of Lloyd.
